View Holiday Apartments Larnaca

Larnaca, situated on the south eastern coast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, enjoys a climate typical of the region. The summers are hot and dry – temperatures reaching a maximum of around 32 degrees Celsius during the summer months. The winters are mild. Offshore breezes mean that the coastal regions remain comfortable even during the hottest part of the year.

Larnaca International Airport is only some three miles from the town centre with a journey time of just 15 minutes by car, taxi, or coach transfer, via excellent road links.

Larnaca Attractions

Its Mediterranean location and climate makes Larnaca an obvious destination for traditional beach holidaymakers and water sports’ enthusiasts. The area offers three excellent beach facilities – Dasoudi, Geroskipou and Larnaca – together with a large marina and a bustling promenade area. The promenade area is the centre for most of the nightlife in Larnaca with a good selection of bars, restaurants and clubs.

Visitors of a historical or archaeological persuasion will not be disappointed. As befitting a settlement that has purportedly been in existence for over 6,000 years, the region is steeped in history. The Agiou Lazarou or “Holy Lazarus”, Church, for example, was built during the 9th century on the site of the tomb of the biblical saint. It now houses a museum of beautiful religious art and relics.

Clues to the ancient history of Larnaca can be found at the Kition Archaelogical Site where remains of temples, tombs, and other structures dating from the 12th and 13th centuries have been unearthed. Slightly more contemporary, although still dating from the 17th century, is Larnaca Castle. Formerly a prison, the castle now houses an archaeological museum and affords excellent views of the town and the surrounding areas.

The area surrounding Larnaca is noticeably flatter than, for example, the mountainous region of Paphos to the west of the island. Nearby natural and cultural attractions include The Great Salt Lake from which salt is collected in summer. The lake is home to many thousands of pink flamingos in winter. Also popular is the charming village of Lefkara in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains which is famous for its handmade lace.

Larnaca Accommodation

Holiday apartments in Larnaca and the surrounding region are both plentiful and affordable. You may, for example, want to choose a one or two, bedroom apartment in a modern complex – perhaps with a communal swimming pool and gardens – in the heart of Larnaca itself. If you have a larger family, a traditional Cypriot villa either in the town or in one of the outlying villages may be more appropriate. For example, three or four bedroom villas in and around the fishing village of Zygi and the village of Kalavasos are close to the popular Governor’s Beach area.
