LOCAL AMENITIES
Within a 5 minute walk you will find the nearest Venta (bar/restaurant), Casa Blas, where you will always get a welcome reception. This is the busiestVenta in the area and we would highly recommend a visit for a reasonably priced evening meal, the restaurant begins serving at 20.30.
Next to the Venta is a small supermarket from which you can purchase any essentials that you require, but for a larger selection you will need to go to one of the larger supermarkets. Within a further 2 minutes walk you will find a pharmacy and within 10 minutes a further selection of Ventas. Immediately outside Casa Blas is a bus stop where you can catch a bus to Chiclana de la Frontera.
In order to make the most of your holiday we feel that hiring a car is essential in order to explore other parts of Andalucia.
CHICLANA DE LA FRONTERA
The nearest town is Chiclana de la Frontera, a 10 minute drive, which stands on the river Iro. There are a variety of shops in the town and as you walk through you will notice the typical Andalucian architecture. In the centre of town is the market which gets very lively in the morning and is worth a visit just to relive experiences of days gone by in the UK.
There are also a variety of restaurants and bars, mostly local Ventas, but, there are 2 chinese restaurants if you want to go Oriental and a Spanish steakhouse (El Santuario).
LA BARROSA - (20 minutes drive) is the local beach which has 7 kilometres of golden sand and forms part of the Novo Sancti Petri holiday resort. Also in the area you will find numerous golf courses. There are several restaurants including Mexican, Indian and Asiatic.
FURTHER AFIELD
There are far too many other places to visit and things to do in Andalucia to list on this web site, but, to give you a flavour the following might be helpful: -
CADIZ CITY - (15 minutes drive) this can really be split into two, the old and the new. The old part is by far more interesting with narrow streets lined with shops and some interesting architecture. You can get on a city bus tour where you can hop on and hop off at your pleasure.
SEVILLE - (1.5 hours drive) There are many interesting buildings in Seville that are open to the public, including the Cathedral and the Real Alcazar (Kings Palace) and gardens. The Plaza Espana is a short walk from the centre.
JEREZ - (30 minutes drive) is famous as the sherry producing capital of Spain and you can visit the local Bodegas to see how this is made. Jerez is also home to the Royal School of Equestrian Art and is worth a visit, but make sure you go on a day when there is a show.
GIBRALTAR - (75 minutes drive) Famous for the Barbary Apes, which you can see on a 'Rock Tour', and duty free shopping. There are some musuems and, if you are feeling energetic, you can walk to the far side of the Island, or catch a bus.
TARIFA - (60 minutes drive) is the windsurfing capital of Europe. From here you can also get a day trip to Morroco which is well worth doing. In Morroco you usually visit the Medina, have lunch and have time for shopping, but beware you will be pestered by street sellers.
As well as the above you can drive through some spectacular Andalucian countryside, visit Pueblo Blancos (white villages), the Donana National Park, Selwo Wildlife Park and, for children, there is a water park in the Bahai de Cadiz.
